There was a little surprise amongst our group of student travelers on my trip to Italy with my school Art History class. Let me just say, I have a strange knack for recognizing similar face and bone structures between multiple individuals. At a group dinner one night - organized by the students, as the teachers did not plan group meals, nor attended this one - I looked over at this girl Chelsea. There was something vaguely familiar about her. I looked to the girl directly across me and, gesturing to Chelsea, said, "She looks like that singer guy with the big mouth."
"Mick Jagger?" she offered.
"No...I don't think that's it," I said.
"Steven Tyler? Aerosmith?"
"Yeah that's it!" I exclaimed. Chelsea looked over and said, "What about him?"
"You look just like him," I said.
"Oh yeah, that's my dad," she said. I looked at her and waited for her to say she was joking, but instead she looked around at us all, and said, "Oh I thought you guys knew."
Admittedly, I think I was more impressed with my talent for recognizing similar facial patterns than this news, haha. I listened as she explained her tattoos - the names of her siblings - and how she ended up at MassArt. I don't know whether or not she minded, but it seemed she was paired as a roommate with this random girl who was obsessed with her father's celebrity, and wouldn't stop pushing her brother's music recordings.
Venice holds a prestigious school for communications, and we were there just around graduation time. The teachers explained that at this point, friends of those graduating make posters adorned with their friend's photos, information about them, and more. Then, they hang them all over the city.
Well, I guess I wasn't a terribly adventurous photographer on this trip and didn't capture most of these posters. However, I did capture this serendipitous moment with a student, and Chelsea Tallarico.
One poster - smack dab in front of us - showed a photo of a girl surrounded by Aerosmith imagery. The group showed Chelsea and, coincidentally, this girl was just a few yards away at an outdoor dining area with some friends. She was wearing a sailor's outfit, as it's also customary for graduates to dress-up.
Chelsea went over to the girl and introduced herself. The girl's English was okay, and she understood what Chelsea was saying - her dad is Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. She called her dad on the phone and put him on so he could sing a congratulations song to his Italian fan, and the girl began to cry. And this - this is what I captured on video. It's a horribly shaky, SD, interlaced video, so I decided to go with the screenshots, haha.
