My first official 'Year In Review' post is here - and jam-packed with a million things! Well, many things - let's not get ahead of ourselves, haha...
First, the year began with the completion of my successfully-funded Kickstarter campaign for my thesis film 'My Big Bad Wolf'! We filmed last summer in and around Ponkapoag, MA , and our behind-the-scenes footage is pretty great. I spent the school year editing the film, running the Kickstarter campaign, creating promotions, sending the film to festivals and screenings - and my thesis film premiere event! And it didn't stop there - just last month I received the 'One To Watch Award' at the Red Wasp Film Festival for the film, too.
On top of that, I was also working on my series 'Liar Liar (Pants On Fire)' and multimedia installation show 'TransFIREmation.' I filmed and photographed the series up in Maine with my friend, a fire spinner who was very enthusiastic about this project! Sure, I ended up in the hospital and broke my favorite ring, but it was worth it. I created a lot of work out of the footage, including 'A Study In Blue Jeans,' 'Made In Yugoslavia,' and of course the overall 'Pants on Fire' piece.
All of my work came together in the collaborative gallery show and installation I put together at Massachusetts College of Art & Design. The TransFIREmation show reception was packed, and it was a great night! I'm glad my work could be seen and shared with so many people with so many different interpretations of my work.
Not long after my gallery show and thesis film premiere - I graduated! I received my BFA in Film/Video from Massachusetts College of Art & Design, also receiving Academic Honors with a GPA of 3.78 (Cum Laude) and the award for Excellence in Liberal Arts. Yep, I still feel pretty good about it, haha.
The school also held its Graduating Senior Exhibition in which my photograph 'Alps in 3D' hung on a prime wall! I took that photo while on the plane home from my school trip to Italy in 2011, and it now hangs in the Admissions Office until, well, I want it back, haha.
I also received word that my short film 'Ice Cream for Breakfast,' also filmed and completed during my senior year, made it into several festivals. In fact - I was also a semi-finalist in the Adobe Design Achievement Awards!
My older films also made the rounds on festivals, like 'The Box' and 'The Robber,' plus my first 16mm film 'Cemetery Writer: The Door' made it to Italy! My photography also made it into the Art Reception at the Executive Office of Education Exhibition in Boston last month, too.
Wow, so many things happened this year! I can't wait to see what 2014 has in store...
