I've been playing with my new color program Magic Bullet Looks for the past few months, and decided to use this magical color program to spice-up some older works.
My short film 'The Box' is an Official Selection for the Action On Film Festival and will screen this August in California. I was going to fix the credits, but now I've decided to simply color grade the entire film using Magic Bullet Looks! You can really see the differences in these before-and-after views of the film - from yellow, to blue overtone.
Personally, I feel like the new color gives the film a bit more dimension - and I've been told objectively that this new color better communicates the feeling of the film. Though I had initially chosen the overall yellow and black tones of the film to emphasize the ideals of the four humors black and yellow bile, I decided that the blue tones, or 'phlegm,' better tie to the feelings I wish perceived by the viewer.
Note that even the blacks are tinted blue in this 2013 color edit. Ever watch those crime dramas and TV cop shows that are largely cyan and yellow? For me, cyan and blue-tinted blacks are just beautiful, and so much more pleasant for my eyes. How do you feel about the blue-in-the-black?
