Call For Art: Post-Gay?
Call For Art: The recent legalization of gay marriage in the United States and the very public lives of trans celebrities has led to the Boston LGBTQIA Artist Alliance (BLAA) show "Post-Gay?," an invitation to LGBTQIA artists in and around Boston to respond to this increased visibility, and consider ways they are investigating, celebrating or criticizing these changes. "Post-Gay?" considers the consequences of assimilation and progress. Where does growing mainstream acceptance leave more marginalized queer identities, and how do the myriad of LGBTQIA identities conceptualize themselves in the face of shifting cultural opinion? Concurrently, how do we respond to the hate and violence against the LGBTQIA community taking place alongside this moment?
Works to be considered for participation in BLAA"s "Post-Gay?" show must touch upon these ideas and themes. Artists in all mediums, from painting to performance, are encouraged to submit.

Boston LGTBQIA Artist Alliance (BLAA) is a group committed to providing support, resources, and community to Boston-based artists. BLAA’s goal is to provide a platform for LGBTQIA artists to showcase their work; promote public awareness of BLAA’s existence and mission; offer opportunities for artists to network with each other, other arts resources, and with new audiences; and foster dialogue surrounding queerness and art. We aim to build community offering support and resources for queer artists within the greater Boston community. Follow BLAA online, on Facebook, and on Twitter!
Last summer I found a call for art online and entered my work into a gallery show run by the BLAA. In the fall, the 'Makeover!' show was held at Subsamson gallery in Boston, and I was able to meet tons of amazing artists who were not only interested in showcasing their work, but who were also interested in being part of a community. I was invited by Dylan Hurwitz, the new BLAA President, to join the board and do some social media outreach!
I finally managed to attend my first BLAA meeting, and was delighted at how helpful, open, friendly and collaborative everyone is! We were even sharing design websites, career advice, and pizza. It's truly a community you'd want to be part of, and I there's no better way than to put yourself out there, and submit to one of their shows!
