When I went on my Taglit trip to Israel last December, we explored Old Jaffa's artist district. We were moving so quickly, though, that we didn't have time to check out any of the art! We passed by a gallery of art by Betty Rubinstein, and I took a quick photo of her pomegranate paintings. I said to myself, whenever I make a trip back here, I'll buy that painting and more of her art!
Well, I made it back to Israel, to Tel Aviv, and contacted Betty before leaving the MITF program. Due to the holidays, she wouldn't be in Jaffa - but conveniently our program was taking a trip to Zikhron Ya'akov just a few days later, and that's where Betty has a second studio!
Betty was awesome and gave me a tour, then let me take a photo of her for posterity, haha. How often are you able to travel back across the world to find the artist, let alone a piece of art?
My friend and I stopped in at her gallery where I bought several prints and paintings - and of course, the pomegranate piece! I seem to be a pretty good packer at this point, and brought these pieces back to the US unscathed. In fact, I had two of the canvases framed! Her use of color is amazing, and I love all the flowers.
