Upon starting my Newhouse summer "bootcamp," we learned we had to write one "newsworthy" article each week. We were all like, "We're new here, how do we know what's going on?" Well, you go out and ask. So I went around to a bunch of local businesses and spoke to shop owners. Long story short, I stumbled upon the beginnings of an entire art initiative with project 315Alive, a project headed by Jake Roberts, co-owner of Spark Contemporary Art Space here in Syracuse, NY.
And, so, I wrote this article about "12 Murals in 12 Weeks" on Syracuse.com. It's the pilot program of a larger public art fund that's in the works. What's more - I'm getting involved, too! Perhaps a website is in order, as they've just launched a GoFundMe and are planning the murals as we speak - or, as I type this.
I'd love to see public art everywhere, especially amidst the large, blocky brutalism architecture around here, haha.
