In line with all the mural projects throughout Syracuse, I met with local children's book illustrator London Ladd, who's painting two murals under the train trestle on the corner of South Salina and West Taylor streets in the city’s South Side. The murals depict Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. along with quotes from each, commemorating the men’s Syracuse speeches in 1861 and 1961, respectively. You can learn more about the project by watching my video, or by reading the article on The Stand!
We had such a great interview, and I definitely need to make a longer video on London; he had so much energy and was excited to share about art, education and community, and I think that needs to be heard!
In London's words, "I think understanding struggle, and knowing that when you’re in the midst of struggle, you’re progressing towards something good – you just have to persevere through it."
