My mom and I made another going-to-school-soon-send-off trip together, haha - this time to Gatlinburg, TN! After I was accepted into the Breaking Fate Entertainment "Mountain of Laughs" Comedy Festival for two of my films, we decided to make a trip of the whole thing. We landed Friday evening, and took photos throughout the few days we were in the area - specifically Parkway, a very tourist-attraction-y area with a lot of food places!
I managed to catch a guy in a cowboy hat in a shot. Sort of like when I tried to discreetly get shots of Orthodox jews in Jerusalem. Tricky, indeed. This was also the first time I'd ever had beef jerky in my life! The guy was nice and let me try anything I wanted. I should've asked to try alligator - but, I bought some teriyaki beef jerky and it's amazing! The trout jerky is...an acquired taste, haha.
Also - check out that decorative sewer cover! I now have an ongoing collection of photographs of manhole covers, haha. I don't know if we have such nice ones around here, I have to look.
Thankfully the rain held off until the day we were leaving, so while it was overcast we were still able to travel up to the top of the Smoky Mountains (via chair lift!) and take in the sights! I overlaid two photos to get the full "smokey clouds" to appear in those landscape shots, and that photo of us was taken by a lovely family from Buffalo, NY, haha.
Last but not least, we ventured to the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies! We both took many photos (without flash!) and I'm excited to have a new and neon-vibrant collection of jellyfish photos, haha. I'm thinking of a new project I can do with these - I mean, look at those colors!
Overall it was a great trip! I not only received the "Director's Choice Award" for my short film "The Best A Man Can Get" at the film festival, but it was really fun to travel with my mom and make it a sort of "photography" trip, too. A good send-off!
