Project

Overview

Owner

The Girl Mirage

A Geena Media brand, The Girl Mirage is Geena Matuson as multidisciplinary artist using the surreal to explore the ephemeral and shine a light on societal perceptions. Stylistically, her work plays with language and patterns, cognitive dissonance and ephemerality, often using the medium itself as a means to communicate a message.

As with her multimedia work, her two-dimensional art is characterized by a variety of colors, textures and shapes to create contrast and balance. While she employs one medium in a variety of ways, her work is often a mix of media including physical paint, pencils and pen; and photography, digital design, collage and layering.

Concept

Flower Daze

An ongoing mixed media series, “Flower Daze” is an exploration in ephemerality through a floral lens using both physical and digital media. Both intentional and experimental techniques are used in this work, including physical watercolor, acrylics, layering, and also the methods by which each piece is printed.

This series focuses on the flower, and its ephemeral nature. While the flower only lives and blooms for a brief period of time, this series distorts its reality into a fantasy that can live on in perpetuity in a surreality that does not question the flowers' enduring presence.

Details

Stemming from Photographs

While some pieces look like they are entirely digitally fabricated, or perhaps entirely painted, each image starts with a photograph taken by the artist at various points in time. A series that began in 2015, all work has been created by hand and no A.I. has been involved in its making.

Flower Daze

An ongoing series of mixed media artwork, “Flower Daze” captures a love of all things floral. Techniques have included both physical and digital media, with a focus on ephemerality as expressed through artistic experimentation.

Quote

Ephemeral Nature

“Photographing flowers allows me to capture a single moment in time, and creating art using this imagery allows me to be closer to one of my favorite ephemeral subjects. I can then change this unique moment into something unrealized in nature, adding colors and textures from another world.”
